Mark Hiley

Mark founded The Analyst in 2010, starting a blog before turning the business idea into a regulated, independent research platform for like-minded investors. As founder, CEO, and research analyst, Mark is still very active in the business today, not only covering stocks but also speaking to key clients, leading the team, and heading up operations.

He graduated in Philosophy, Politics & Economics from St. Anne’s College, Oxford University in 2001, and joined Fidelity International in London. After covering various sectors, including business services, distributors and chemcials, he moved to Trafelet & Company UK (later renamed Habrok Capital Management).

His background on the buy-side provided a grounding in fundamental equity research skills and stock picking, later focussing on short, and accounting-driven, ideas.

Elizabeth Knowles

Elizabeth joined The Analyst in February 2020. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Grant Thornton, she worked across a variety of industries, including time as the Director of Financial Reporting of Warner Music UK and as Financial Controller at Global Infrastructure Partners.
Elizabeth is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds an Honours degree in French Studies from The University of Warwick.

Chris Wane

Chris joined The Analyst in June 2021 as Head of Research. He brings experience of both the buy side and sell side, a real passion for fundamental investing and a track record of innovation.
Having started his career at Deloitte, Chris spent 13 years at Deutsche Bank as a highly ranked strategist in several specialisms including CROCI (Deutsche Bank’s proprietary valuation approach), Capital Structure Analysis and heading Pan European Small & Mid Cap Strategy. He then spent 6 years in their asset management division initially in a commercial role before establishing and leading a team managing up to €3bn in high conviction equity funds.
Chris holds a first class degree in Accountancy Studies from the University of Exeter, is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, holds the Investment Management Certificate, has completed the University of Oxford Said Business School FinTech programme and is a Certified European ESG Analyst.

James Armstrong

James joined The Analyst from PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2014 after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. He contributes sharp analytical skills and a keen interest in stocks. He particularly focuses on value buy ideas along with high-conviction shorts in companies with structural challenges and poor management. James holds a Masters degree in Chemistry from the University of Durham.

Rhea Bhandari

Rhea joined The Analyst in 2023 after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant from KPMG, and holds a first-class Accounting and Finance BSc(Hons) degree from the University of Exeter. She has experience working as an auditor for listed companies and has built a strong financial foundation. She is keen to contribute her knowledge of accounting to analysing companies from their financial fundamentals.

Jamie Fletcher

Jamie joined The Analyst in 2022 from an independent research firm focussed on significant mispricings within Europe (long/short). Prior to that he spent 13 years on the buyside at a global asset manager, most recently as an Analyst & Portfolio Manager on the Fund of Funds team.
Jamie is a CFA Charterholder and has previously volunteered as a teaching assistant for the London Business School Value Investing Course. He has a preference for contrarian longs with underappreciated quality business models and accounting shorts with promotional management teams.

Emiljana Krali

Emiljana joined The Analyst in 2022 and has experience as a sell-side equity research where she focused on the Technology and Fintech sectors.
She holds a BSc in Physics, an MSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and completed a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London. During her PhD she focused on semiconductor materials. She prefers businesses, which fundamentals are not really understood by the market.

Jack Stonehouse

Jack joined The Analyst in 2018 after working on the buy-side for a small and mid-cap European asset manager for four years. Jack holds a BSc in Mathematics with Economics from UCL and has passed all three levels of the CFA. He has a preference for special situations misunderstood by the market.

Matt Littlewood

Matt joined The Analyst as Head of Sales in early 2022, bringing 20 years of alpha-centric experience advising both investors and corporates, alongside an operational track record of growing and mentoring consumer-facing businesses.
He spent the majority of his prior career at investment banks Merrill Lynch and Barclays as a specialist in Consumer sectors, where he was consistently top ranked for his coverage, alongside roles as head of sales teams for EMEA. Outside of the finance industry Matt is an experienced NED and commercial director, which brings a differentiated skillset and approach to advisory management.
A Business Economics graduate of the University of London, Matt holds a variety of both professional and industry qualifications and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

Harry Grist

Harry joined The Analyst in February 2022 in Equity Sales, he has over 14 years of financial services experience and had spent the last six years living in the US, working in a Specialist Sales role.
Harry began his career in trading, with roles at two large sell-side firms. He then joined a US independent energy specialist, helping to set up and eventually run their London trading desk. Harry was then asked to join their Sales team based in NYC, where he covered accounts in the US and Europe; and helped to build out their Canadian franchise. Harry enjoys blending his background in trading to his Sales role, to feed the best ideas into clients. He graduated from the University of Leicester with a BA in Economics and Law.

Austin Quick

Austin began his career in equities in the European research department of James Capel working on the Autos & Capital Goods and then DM-bloc team. He has over 20 years sales experience, initially working as a German specialist and then as a generalist on pan-Europe to both hedge funds and long-only. Previous firms include Bear Stearns, Execution/Espirito Santo, ABN Amro, and Natixis. Austin holds a BA Hons in German and European Studies from Manchester University.

Colin Oakes

Colin joined The Analyst in 2020 and specialises in business reporting and data analysis, working with the management team to drive growth and streamline procedures. Colin’s focus is in ETL pipeline implementation, KPIs structuring for insights on website, CRM, sales and company data, together with advancing the IT requirements of the business.

Colin holds a BA in Philosophy from King’s College London and previously worked in Probate & Estate Planning.

Tunde Fasoyiro

Tunde joined The Analyst as Chief Compliance Officer in 2020. He brings almost 30 years regulatory and compliance experience including senior management roles – Head of Compliance (CF10/SMF16), and MLRO (CF11/SMF17) – at a number of financial institutions and law firms, including Société General Private Banking and Norton Rose Fulbright LLP. He also spent 6 years as an FSA (FCA) regulator, supervising a portfolio of investment firms.
As a provider of compliance, anti-money laundering and financial crime solutions, Tunde has a proven track record in leading compliance review programmes, setting up compliance and financial crime control frameworks, implementing policies, procedures and controls as well as leading remediation reviews. He is enthusiastic with a focus on enhancing firms’ compliance culture and a strong business acumen in supporting client profitability.

Tunde is a Graduate of Finance & Banking.

Marc Henham

Marc joined The Analyst in May 2019 from a private practice law firm in Mayfair where as general counsel he focussed on high value cross-border litigation and arbitration, sports and media law, mergers and acquisitions and technology law. Marc has over 10 years legal experience spanning multiple legal sectors. Over 5 of those years have been spent at The Analyst where, as sole counsel, much of Marc’s work centres around data law, regulatory law, financial services, employment law, tech and licensing.

Marc was admitted as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales in November 2013 and is a member of The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn having been called to the Bar in March 2007. After being called to the Bar, Marc spent a year in Australia, working in Melbourne at the Office of Public Prosecution and Middletons (now K&L Gates) and working as a researcher for the Director of the Sydney Institute of Criminology at the University of Sydney.

Outside of work, Marc enjoys spending time with his family and dogs and, when it is not broken down, meandering around the countryside in his Land Rover Defender Puma 110.

Charly Marks

Charly joined The Analyst as HR Manager in April 2020. She has had a varied career in sales, leadership and HR within the financial services sector.
Charly has a passion for people. She is focused on building and maintaining an environment at The Analyst where employees can thrive and deliver exceptional value to our customers. Charly has a degree in Politics, Economics and Public Policy and is CIPD Level 5 Qualified. She is also a qualified Mental Health First Aider.

Emma Pope

Emma graduated from the University of Sussex with a BA in Business Management in 2013 and has since worked in various roles across marketing, business development, and personal assistance. Emma worked in the oil and gas sector for 10 years before joining The Analyst in 2022. Emma’s role is PA to Mark Hiley and Office Manager, she is also a qualified Mental Health First Aider.

Charlie Sims

Charlie works alongside our analysts to visualise the ideas and data behind the stock recommendations. Through static graphics, videos and animations he helps bring a visual element to our research to make it quick and easy to digest. Charlie’s work also includes data visualisation, illustration and design layouts for print, digital and social media outputs.
Charlie grew up in Somerset before graduating from Kingston University’s Design School in 2014. He then worked for a year at Information Is Beautiful studio before joining The Analyst in 2015.

Jay Donn

Jay joined The Analyst in May 2024 as our Video Editor & Producer. He has 16 years of professional experience working within the broadcast and digital media industry, spanning video and stills photography, filmmaking, video production, motion graphics and graphic design. Jay studied at the University of West London in 2004 and graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Digital Animation.
